ON THE NATION'S UPHEAVAL AGAINST CORRUPTION

What are these strikes, whats all this protest for ?
What do we crave for that Anna promises to give us all ?
Bespectacled and clad in white,
We say, the second Gandhiji of India has arrived !
But whats most disheartening for the soul
Is to see many of my countrymen fight with their eyes closed !
They are troubled by the rooted corruption
Whose poisoned branches have pinched us all.
Truly they say that things now have reached their zenith worst
Which forced them out of their dens in unison.

Heated spirits and enthusiasm untainted
Mark us all as we flood the street !
But before rebelling and taking steps hardened
We must know well enough the cause we fight for,
Must know in depth the reason behind the Anna Hazare's revolt .
For not only will it give us wit and direction
But also give proper respect to the sacrifice of an old man !
What we must realize that only one is not corrupt
That most of us at sometime did tread on the wrong way.
The fight hence is not against a person or government
The fight is to protect our motherland from falling into corruption's grave !
People are at fault and many have been wronged
But its upto us to put a stop to this.
Before we fight, before we join hands with Hazare
Let us first ensure that those hands are not free from corruption's dirt !
Let us educate ourselves and the masses at large
About what we actually are fighting for .
Lets learn the difference between Lokpal and Jan Lokpal Bills
But before that lets pledge to stay away from corrupt means.
For a bill of law punishes wrong doers
But its upto us to do no wrong at all !

AN UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEY

As tiny tots we set foot here,
One morning when the sun shone bright.
Little did we know or think at least,
That our lives here would be like the sunlit east !

The teachers scolded when we talked,
Indifferent about the lessons ongoing....
We felt bad then but now we feel
Had they not then where would we have been?

History for us was the biggest mystery
And geography fetched us circles red;
Chemical equations haunted us
While the EVE teacher rarely saw our face.

Physics was an ocean in the dark
When exams brought with them bagfuls of misery.
We thought we'd face them like a valiant knight,
But the syllabus forced us to use chits in our fight.

What exams couldn't, results did for us
And we thought we'd study the next day...
That 'next day' our lives havn't yet seen
As fun and frolic soon overtook the guilt!

The shrinking grades or the redder marks did nothing towards our aim
As the next day we bunked Maths again to play a volleyball game.
Suspension followed along with glaring parents
But all this couldn't prevent us from bunking again !

Amidst all this ruckus we learnt a few lessons of life...
We formed bonds of unbreakable camaraderie
And knew love among friends that would always suffice.

We had our own share of brawling
Which sometimes took a turn dangerous.
But these fights lead to stronger bonds
And taught how to compromise for peace.

Follies committed all kept aside,
We did do the school proud alright.
Competitions we have won and emerged victorious,
Things we'll be remembered for in the upcoming years.

But this saga now seems a mile too short
When we emerge from this institution great...
We bow before our teachers and give parting hugs to our friends.
We'll always be in each-others heart although we are miles away!

IS WHO YOU KNOW MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT YOU KNOW?

He couldn't stop smiling. There was overflowing happiness. Two hours from now would be a very special moment for him.Avyakta was boarding a flight to Pune to take up the post of CEO of a reputed MNC there.

Now, five years later, sitting in the plush office of his consultancy firm, he says," When I reached there, there was no There !!"Apparently, the post about which Avyakta was so happy had been given to a highly influential, not to say, highly undeserving candidate who, as Avyakta later found out, was the brother-in-law of the company's directors.
He says,"You see, who you know is more important than what you know!"

The universe is wonky. Equilibrium is an illusion. It is predictably unbalanced. The majority has little impact. But a small, influential minority has a major and dominant impact.Only a few things really matter;most donot and among those that matter, connections count the most.

The mantra of Youngistan today is: SUCCESS......at little potential and a little extra cost and connections.
Everybody wants to succeed, most of them take the short cut, or shall we say, the wrong cut to do so.Why??The reasons are basic and interlinked !!

Competetion today is our second sibling. As a child is born, with him is born the spirit of competetion. Be it studies, extra-curricular activities or even bunking classes, there is competetion among us, within us and infact evrywhere around us ! In this competitive world, if you donot have a heavy pocket and a few people to recognize you for your niceties, you are colled a LOSER regardless of your capabilities and potential.

Man in this competetive world found succeeding increasingly difficult and even if he did succeed overcoming all odds, he was gloomy because he was not the first one to do so. As they say, Necessity is the mother of invention. Hence necessity implored Man to invent alternatives.......alternatives like 'connections', 'bribery'.

If you knew the right poeple, you reached where you wanted to reach and if you didnot, then you remained where you were!!

Obviously, using ones connections pejoratively provided a lucrative alternative to success attained through delirious struggle.Hence people started using it more and more.......See where this has landed us....in a world where the words 'deserving' and 'potential' are drowning in a sea of connections.

On the face of it, it all seems very convenient but have you ever thought, twenty years down the lane, what connections will you use to answer your conscience when your children suffer from the same disease that you once gave to others !

Look around you, look at your peers and above all, look at yourself. Ask yourself whether you deserve to be where you are today. If you get a YES for an answer, feel proud of yourself. But if you get a No, then make the decision right now.Do you want to be somebody or just anybody. If you want to be anybody, then merge with the crowd...get lost in the crowd. If you live like evrybody, you will be like evrybody !! And if you want to be somebody, then you will have to do what nobody has done . Dare to trudge upon a different path and make yourself count. You will certainly carve a destination for yourself......connections or no connections !!

ASPIRATIONS

I want to be like a feather,
White as peace and independent like the weather.
I want to fly,fly high in the sky,
With the cool breeze as my companion....
And go off to far off lands,
Where the stars i can kiss and where nothing shall i miss.
Where love and life would be at their best,
As if clad in the glamorous costumes of the west.
But with an Indian heart I shall go,
And create leaders who will bring peace back home
To drive the evils out of home.
O you Gods spare me please,
Of the sins I 've committed to make myself pleased.
You are something ,I know not what.
I 've never seen You,nor have i felt You....
But i know that you live within me and perhaps you are everything I am.
O God,tell me who you are,
And give me strength to attain success..
In all the steps that i take.
O God give me the strength to defeat the devil,
And eliminate the word called evil.

FRIENDLESS

The wide world all around me,
Beautiful to all but a pain for me.
I look around and i gauge the miles,
Too full of people, but where among them is me?

I see a light ray midst the darkness,
And i rush towards it with excited madness.
I search,I seek and I crave for a friend,
But deserting people seems to be the day's trend!

He who came once with glittering stars,
Left soon after leaving me shattered like a dead flower.
I gave him my light but he offered shadows,
Only to leave me amidst drought stricken meadows.

I cried and cried expecting him to be back,
But all he did was treat me like a discarded sack.
I gave him my heart,it is true,
But what he did was change me all through.

He is no more with me but here i stand,
Changed forever with his memories like footprints on sand.
He who went, took away my dreams.......
Dreams which i had nourished with the utmost care it seems.

That's not all, dear friends, please hold on.
You know?Challenges and sorrows gripped my life as he moved on.

But I know that I have to live,
I know I must servive,
Because deed can change destiny,
No man can ever decide it.

Just like a billion drops makes the ocean full,
Bits of effort provide our dreams fuel.
To face the tide is what the mighty do,
Losers leave it upon Almighty to make their wish-cans full.

THREAD

"Once upon a time in the emerald palace,
There lived a prince,
Tall and handsome, and clever as a fish,
He loved a princess called Kasmara,
Who was as beautiful as the sun,"
Said granny to Sarah while eating a bun.
But Sarah was not satisfied,
She had heard many such lovely ties.
Thus bored she told granny,
"Today let me tell you a story,
There was once a burly man.
He was as tall as the mango tree.
His hands were as heavy as a log of wood,
And his wife was sweet little Mary.
The burly man and Mary had a daughter,
Whom they loved the most.
To them she was as bright as a diamond,
Though her skin was as black as coal.
Mary said,"My daughter is as beautiful as a pink coloured tulip,
And a rosy smile is always there on her lips."
But every person who saw there child knew no uglier one!
But to Mary and the burly man,
Their daughter was as valuable as the last water-filled can.
Thus was their life happy and safe,
Spun around their only child.
One day the villagers said to them,
"Your child is the ugliest and she should be taken out of town."
They asked,"What's unique in her??Tell us now!!"
Tears filled Mary's husband's eyes but she did not cry at all.
To the villagers she said,
"Beauty of heart is real beauty, beauty of face is none.
Love is born at heart and makes the ugly sweet.
It is a THREAD which no one sees but everyone feels
Binding their hearts.
And it is this love that's unique in my child,
Which none of you have."
A divine palour spread in the room,
Which clothed Mary and her granny.
Light streamed in through the window,
Freshly washed by the just concluded rain.
And this light penetrated their hearts,
As if telling them the secret of love.......
Tears streamed down granny's cheeks,
Washing away all her griefs.
She kissed her grand daughter,
Proud of the knowledge she possessed,
Which granny in all her years couldnot access.
